DJI has just announced the new P4 Multispectral drone, the world's first fully-integrated multispectral imaging drone designed for precision agriculture and environmental management. The P4 Multispectral combines the data from six separate sensors to measure crop health, from individual plants to entire fields, as well as insects, weeds, and different soil conditions. With this innovative new system professionals in the agriculture industry will be able to see the unseen, scout fields in less time, and ultimately make better decisions to optimize plant health and yields.
In the drone industry, the agricultural market is expected to grow from $1.2 billion USD in 2019 to 4.8 billion by 2024. The P4 Multispectral provides agronomists and farmers with a new tool to cut costs, improve yields and further help environmental professionals to monitor vegetation on land. With the combination of DJI's innovated drone technology and multispectral imaging, the P4 Multispectral is able to give operators an easy-to-use and accessible drone platform for professionals around the world.
The P4 Multispectral features a 3-Axis stabilized gimbal system that is composed of one RGB camera and a multispectral camera array with five narrow band sensors including near infrared and red edge, sensors capable of capturing invisible and visible light. With the data collected professionals can garner unique insights into vegetation stress, soil composition, as well as water contamination and salinity. With an additional integrated spectral sunlight sensor, the accuracy and consistency of data collected during missions are maximized during flights throughout all times of the day.
Featuring seamless integration with the DJI Groundstation Pro flight planning app, pilots can switch between real-time views of the drone's RGB video camera and NDVI output for immediate insights while on the field. As well, an integrated TimeSync system and RTK positioning module supports real-time, accurate positioning data for reach image captured, optimizing results and providing users with centimeter-level accurate measurements.
The P4 Multispectral is compatible with standard industry workflows including flight mapping, programming, and analytics software from DJI and other leading providers. With DJI's GroundStation Pro App, operators can create automated and repeatable missions including planning, execution, and flight data management. Any data collected can easily be imported into DJI Terra or other third-party software including DroneDeploy and Pix4D. The P4 Multispectral also enables users to gather accurate RTK positioning without an internet connection by using DJI's D-RTK 2 High-Precision GNSS Mobile station which supports major global satellite navigation systems or by using other third party RTK networks through an iPad with an internet connection.
The P4 Multispectral leverages DJI's powerful OcuSync transmission system for ultra-smooth flights, reduced signal interference, enhanced video transmission, and a 7km max range. Each 2-megapixel camera features a global shutter for ultra-precise imaging during flights with a flight time of up to 27 minutes.
With its powerful performance and innovative six sensor camera the P4 Multispectral is set to transform the agriculture and land management sectors by helping users collect precise plant-level data without having to send workers into the field to conduct manual surveys - ultimately saving on time, money, and resources.
